A New Era for Afrikaans Drama on SABC2
After the long-running success and eventual farewell of 7de Laan, SABC2 ushers in a bold new chapter with the launch of a brand-new Afrikaans telenovela, Paradys. Premiering on Monday, 23 February 2026 at 19:00, the series marks a significant return to prime-time Afrikaans storytelling. Produced by Black Brain Pictures — known for hits such as Lockdown, Isitha: The Enemy and Side Dish — the show promises layered drama, emotional intensity and powerful social commentary rooted in community life.
The World of Paradys
Set in a close-knit coloured neighbourhood in Johannesburg, Paradys explores the fragile dream of a so-called “Coloured paradise.” Once envisioned as a place of dignity, unity and opportunity, the community now finds itself battling economic hardship, fractured relationships and fading hope. At its heart, the series follows two families — the Booysens and the Malgases — whose lives are deeply intertwined by secrets, sacrifice and betrayal. Survival, faith and family loyalty constantly collide as the residents fight to protect what little they have left.
The Sisters’ Secret That Changed Everything
Years ago, sisters Natasha (played by Chantal Stanfield) and Rochelle (played by Lorcia Cooper) entered into an unthinkable agreement. Unable to conceive, Natasha relied on Rochelle to carry a child on her behalf. But when baby Kim was born, Rochelle could not bear to give her up. Overcome by heartbreak, she fled Paradys, leaving behind a family divided by secrecy and resentment.
Nearly two decades later, poverty forces Rochelle to return home with Kim. The murder of her father, Clive, adds another layer of pain and urgency to her homecoming. Old wounds reopen as long-buried truths threaten to resurface.
Power, Corruption and the Fall of a Dream
Clive, portrayed by Roderick Jafta, was once the visionary determined to transform Paradys into a place of pride and possibility. But his dream stands in direct opposition to Vinny, a ruthless businessman played by Elton Landrew.
Vinny is determined to dismantle everything Clive worked for. When Rochelle begins investigating the circumstances surrounding her father’s murder, she inevitably collides with Vinny’s growing influence in the community. As tensions rise, the battle for Paradys becomes as much about truth and justice as it is about power and survival.

The episode highlights how financial strain can test both dignity and morality.

Elsewhere, Quinton struggles with the guilt of hiding the fact that he has found Rochelle, misreading Natasha’s attempt to reignite their spark. Patrick’s failed attempt to secure a supermarket job — just to be close to Fareedah — adds a lighter but poignant touch to the unfolding drama.
